Why do we choose to play one instrument over another? What style of music do we want to play? How does one instrument sound, feel  and play compared to another? These things combined with an interest in working with wood have led me to my love of guitar making, and to explore different ideas rather than just follow convention.

My main project for over thirty years has been building guitars with Carved Backs, all models shown here have been built with carved and flat backs, in a range of different timbers. I have pursued this idea not just because I like the sound and appearance that has been achieved, but it also offers an alternative to the world of mass production and commercial guitar making.
